Voice for Well-Being:

Vocal exercises for Nervous System Regulation, Resilience and Flexibility.

Your voice, often overlooked in well-being practices, can be a powerful tool for regulation, resilience and nervous system flexibility.

A growing body of research suggests, when we lean into the modulation, vibration and sound of our voice, we discover a tool for nervous system regulation, connection and communication.

When we vocalize (through humming, singing or gentle sounds), we naturally stimulate the vagus nerve, the key part of the parasympathetic nervous system that helps calm and regulate the body.

With just a little understanding of the science - paired with simple, vocal exercises - you can increase your capacity to meet whatever life brings your way with compassion, authenticity and agency.

Together, in this course, we will build that skill by exploring easy vocal exercises as a regulating practice. The neural mechanisms we engage to sound and speak are the same neural mechanisms that promote health, growth and restoration. Taking this voice class will enable you to step into your full self while cultivating resilience in the nervous system.

“Our voice reflects whether we feel safe or unsafe, relaxed or unsettled, playful or aggressive, alive or numb. Our voice is also a bridge that either connects or disconnects us to ourselves, others and the world." Michael Allison, developer of The Play Zone - a unique application of The Polyvagal Theory.

We will meet as a group over Zoom for 4 times for 60 minutes to experience the work. I then invite you to work one on one session with me outside of these times to address your more specific vocal needs. This time will be made with your schedule in mind.

GROUP CLASS for the polyvagal institute

ALIGNING OUR VOICE WITH OUR INTENTION: a Polyvagal Course for Communication.

This course has been designed specifically for The Polyvagal Institute and is available for enrolment through their website only. Please click the button on the right to be taken to their site.

A LITTLE ABOUT THIS COURSE:

Our voice is a profound resource that shapes how others receive and engage with us.

Whether in leadership, parenting, performing, counselling, therapy or coaching, our voice can either invite closeness or create distance. Its tone, rhythm, pace, and pitch signal safety or risk, connection or disconnection, confidence or doubt.

While these dynamics often occur unconsciously, this course empowers you to intentionally develop strategies to align your vocal and physiological presence with your core values, aspirations, and intentions.

Rooted in the principles of Polyvagal Theory, we explore how our voice can be a powerful tool for creating meaningful connections, impactful communication, and building trust—the cornerstone of all relationships.

Designed for daily practice and real-time application, you'll develop practical tools to enhance self-regulation, cultivate meaningful connections, and foster resilience in your personal and professional life.

This is a hybrid course (live + self paced) with all live sessions being recorded.

For more detailed information about the course and how to register, please click the button on the top right hand side to be taken to the Polyvagal Institute site.

Thank you - I hope to see you there.

TESTIMONIAL

DR. HEATHER ABERNETHY - Anesthesiologist

In only 4 weeks of working with Mattie, I clearly saw how my voice was keeping me small. Despite saying “all the right things”, my voice portrayed insecurity and doubt. Mattie created a safe space by keeping the sessions interactive, playful, and educational. I looked forward to our meetings where Mattie taught me tools to align my voice with my intentions. Now I am not only more confident when I speak, I am confident in who I am!

TESTIMONIAL

JESSICA CONWAY - Somatic Practitioner and Meditation Guide

Mattie brings so much heart and play to her voice course. I came away with so many great practices to support my embodied connection to my voice. This course has helped me bring a more authentic and centred voice to my work and personal life.
